Sample Characters

Stuck for ideas, or just want to get a better feel for how the system works? Here are a few sample characters the GM has put together. (Don't worry, they won't be showing up in play!)

  • Mysterious Item (+3) - Deon dug up this strange object while excavating part of her Expansion Site. She's yet to figure out what it is.
  • Expansion Site (+1) - A half-formed home is gradually taking shape here. It'll never amount to Paradise, but Deon hopes one day at least to finish it.
  • Union Member (0) - Deon is a member of the Worker's Union.
  • Influential in the Union (+2) - A somewhat more eloquent speaker than many of her colleagues, Deon's name is quite well known within the Union.
  • Incompetent Ally (-2) - Marl might be a close friend, but he's always getting into trouble. Just last week Deon had to pull him out of a collapse in Construction Site 6, and she suspects that won't be the last of his shenanigans.
  • Responsibility (-2) - Deon has taken on some important Union work from Marcellus, and he would not be very happy if it didn't get done.

Background: A well-liked if rather conspicuous construction worker from Cross, Deon MacNellis has always dreamed of more. When she's not at work or digging her friend Marl out of his latest misadventure, she can be found quietly working on her dream house just outside the dome in one of the Expansion Sites. Of course, being only one person, and a busy one at that, she hasn't got very far, but one can always dream…

  • Competent Ally (+2) - P72, a Philosopher A8563 has specific responsibility for protecting.
  • Stolen ID (+2) - A8563 has an old ID lying around that he 'obtained' from one of the Proletariat. He has not yet worked out what to do with it.
  • Minions (+1) - A8563 holds a bit of sway over some of the other Auxiliaries - not a lot, but enough to get them to help him out now and again.
  • What Could Possibly Go Wrong? (-3) - Well? What could?

Background: A8563 enjoys being an Enforcer - aside from a few friends and a bit of illict loot, it's also gained him some important allies, not least of which is P72, who he is tasked with protecting.

  • Eidetic Memory (+3) - Travis has impecable recall.
  • Reputation (+2) - Having worked a reasonably long time in his field, Travis has slowly garnered trust and respect from his academic peers.
  • Minion (+1) - Travis has a Messenger boy, whom he uses to send letters, pick up supplies, and occasionally help him with his work (usually fetching tea).
  • Pet (+1) - A small, impossibly cute white rabbit Travis received as a present from a friend. He has somehow taught it to fetch.
  • Phobia (-2) - Travis has an irrational fear of the number 9. The fear of a ninth dome being discovered keeps him awake at night.
  • Enemy (-1) - Fellow researcher Janet Gallington shares a friendly rivalry with Travis. Both work in the same field, and both are desperate to make the next big discovery before the other.
  • Cloudcuckoolander (-2) - Why bother with the distractions of the outside world? There's science to be done!

Background: A highly intelligent and talented researcher of pyschology, Travis Prow is something of an expert in his field. Since the discovery of the other domes, he has dedicated a lot of his time to studying their many inhabitants and documenting their foibles. With no obvious personal failings (that he's willing to admit to, anyway) and a lot of good work behind him, the only major blemish on his existence at the moment is his competition with fellow researcher Janet Gallington.

  • Middle Management (-2) - Due to her job, she often finds getting time off a nightmare, so spending extended periods doing what she wants is often a challenge
  • Pet (+2) - Despite not owning much land, one of the first things she did when trying to leave the dome was buy a horse, to assist her travels. It does take up a lot of room though.
  • Tool (+2) - Another item she purchased to assist on her travels was a map. While it only really covers the very nearby area around her dome, it does offer some sage advise on travelling further afield.

Background: Although she has become lucky enough to land a job as a line manager, she only got this far to please her family. Her real passion lies with the outdoors, and now that Inter-Dome travel has become possible, she hopes to leave her job and explore the wilderness.
